After the last Industrial Design, I decided to share another design and this time is about the DJI Mavic Air. I love drones! They totally give you the right amount of freedom to reach another perspective of the world, a feeling that you come greatly addicted. We are sharing the industrial design work from LeapX Design also known as Yumian Deng. He was recruited back to Shenzhen by the founder of the DJI, Frank Wang, to lead the design and development effort of Mavic Pro and Mavic Air. As we all know how DJI has changed the face of their industry, let's take a closer look.
A marvel of engineering and design, the Mavic Air was built to go wherever adventure takes you. Inheriting the best of the Mavic series, this ultraportable and foldable drone features high-end flight performance and functionality for limitless exploration.Links
As tall and wide as a smartphone when folded, the Mavic Air is an ultra-portable drone that stretches the boundaries of what's possible for a device its size. To do this, we had to re-imagine the most efficient design possible. Find a 'Dramatically reduced form factor'.
Expressing geometric precision, the Mavic Air's arms fold flush against its aerodynamic chassis. Magnesium alloy brackets reinforce the seven onboard cameras, rear vents dissipate heat efficiently, and the primary gimbal camera is recessed for better protection.
The Mavic Air is the most portable DJI drone to house a 3-axis mechanical gimbal, with its angular vibration range reduced to 0.005°. Set in a triangular formation, gimbal dampeners help create even steadier shots.Designed and Assembled in Shenzhen
Designers worked closely with engineers from initial sketches through to prototyping and engineering to ensure the highest quality and craftsmanship in mind.
